Letchworth In Colour - Fun Run @ Norton Common

Further Information

Leysbrook Estate Agents is delighted to bring you "Letchworth in Colour: Fun Run" on Saturday 11th June 2022, as part of the Letchworth Festival, at Norton Common.  Participants can run, jog, walk or amble around our course - once for 2.5k distance and twice to achieve 5k.

If you have never done a colour run before this is the event for you this summer!  As you go round the course, our marshals, spectators and other attendees will have paint powder to launch at race participants.  You'll be covered head-to-toe in multicolours by the end of the course!

INFORMATION AND ADVICE FOR PARTICIPANTS

You might have already noticed… a colour fun run isn’t like other 5k runs.  Getting ready for a race with coloured powder being thrown at you and the entertainment afterwards always requires a little preparation and thought.  Whether this is your first time, or you’ve done them before, here are some tips and tricks to make sure you have a blast at our event!

ENTRANCE AND PARKING.  Obviously Norton Common can be accessed from a variety of pedestrian entrances but our event with start and finish next to the Outdoor Swimming Carpark.  The carpark’s postcode is SG6 4UF or use What3Words for the exact entrance point: https://w3w.co/span.ocean.wiser

Carpark charges apply 6.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday:
Up to 2 hours: Free - ticket must be displayed (get this from the machine in the carpark)
Up to 4 hours: £1.75 / Up to 5 hours: £4.85  (which will not be applicable, unless you come to the event much earlier in the day)

There are other carparks and streetparking all around Norton Common.  Please park considerately.

GET THERE ON TIME.  The event opens at 4pm and you will need to check in and get yourself ready for the race.  We will be releasing people in batches from 4.45pm but it will take time to check you in, get your wristbands on, perhaps purchase some merchandise and allow for plenty of photo opportunities.  There’s loads to enjoy (see below) both before and after your race, so please don’t turn up at 6.45pm hoping to start as the event will be finishing up.

FACILITIES AND CATERING.  Norton Common is a beautiful space but there aren’t any facilities there.  Fear not!  We have bought in some portaloos and invited the fab Chef at Home with their BBQ for a delicious meal after you finish your run.  A local PTA (St Mary’s Schools in Baldock) will be bringing their slushy machine down for some ice cool refreshment (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties will be on sale), as well as a bar with beers, wine and soft drinks.

ROUTE.  Please find a map attached for easy reference.  Please don’t feel you need to bring with you.  The event will be well signposted and marshalled throughout.

ENTERTAINMENT.  The fabulous SINGING CACTUS will be joining us to get us in the party spirit playing well known live music (and background music in between sets).  Do your circuit, grab a burger and/or a beer and RELAX in glorious technicolour.

DISTANCE.  We have designed the route to be as inclusive as possible.  If you are new to running or want to take it a bit easier or maybe you have little legs – just do the one lap for 2.5km.  If you can complete two laps, you will have done 5km – WELL DONE!  Either way, you will get a medal if you booked in advance.

MEDALS – You will get your commemorative “well-done” as soon as you finish the race and present yourself at the medals table.  WEAR IT WITH PRIDE.  Please note that people who booked in advance will be prioritised.

BRING A SMALL SANDWICH BAG FOR YOUR CELL PHONE.  You’re going to want to capture you/your team in the race in all their coloured glory!  BUT as you can’t throw your phone in the wash after the race, keep it in a baggie to protect it from the powder. We promise--you’ll still be able to capture some killer photos.

WEAR A BANDANA AND SUNGLASSES.  At each checkpoint along the course, volunteers and marshals will be standing by to douse you in a coloured powder, all the colours of the rainbow!  Sunglasses are definitely advisable (and anyway, the weather looks set to be sunny!) and you can use a bandana or snood over your mouth and nose if you would like to.  The powders are all non-toxic, cornstarch-based and naturally coloured but they aren’t designed to be inhaled in great quantities!

BRING A TOWEL AND BABY WIPES IN YOUR CAR OR BACKPACK.  If you are planning on driving to the event, getting into your car after a colour run can still be a little messy.  A tip from taking my children to rugby – have black bin bags in the boot ready to sit on (and even fashion a makeshift dress out of if necessary).  Alternatively bring old towels or beach towels to throw down on the seats of the car before you drive away.  If you are planning on walking… wear your colours home with pride.

TAKE “BEFORE AND AFTER” PHOTOS.  Start your morning by snapping a pre-race pic in your clean clothes, and get another photo after the race, once you’re covered in colours. The before-and-after comparison is one of the best shots – please share everything on social media using the hashtag #LETCHWORTHINCOLOUR

FINALLY HAVE FUN!  Letchworth in Colour: Fun Run is more about making memories and having fun than worrying about your laptime(s) – if you want to time yourself, please do but we won’t be keeping score; we love all entrant-types - runners, walkers, even dancers!

It will be the happiest 5k you’ve ever done.

Thank you for your support.  We’ll see you there!
